The art of slow living
I've been a city girl most of my life and never thought that I would be intrigued by the idea of Slow Living. I love the energy, the hustle and bustle of a big city - somehow, it made me feel excited and alive! But things started to shift in me, I began to appreciate a slower pace of life. Intentionally choosing to slow down gave me more joy and peace than ever before.
Here's how slow living has benefited me:
Enjoy the present moment: Slowing down gives me space to enjoy the present moment and pay attention to little details in life that I would not have noticed otherwise. These little moments often lead to inspiration and light-bulb moments which are invaluable for my creative work.
Take time to reflect: Slow living allows me to think deeper and find alignment with my core values, so I can design a life that brings me real joy and satisfaction. Knowing what matters to me also guides me in how I should run a business that works for me, not against me.
Create Boundaries: Slow living also teaches me to create boundaries. This often means saying no to things that distract me or activities that fill my calendar out of a sense of obligation. Now, I see rest as part of work and a priority. I no longer work on weekends and I return to my work week feeling fresh, focused, and more productive.
Slowing down is definitely a work in progress for me. I often need to remind myself as old habits of multi-tasking and rushing to do it all come up. The practice of slow living impacts how I run my design studio too. Taking a slower approach to my studio life gives me more enjoyment in my creative process and helps me come up with fresher ideas for my clients.
It might sound countercultural with hustle culture commonly celebrated in the design industry. Still, it is something that feels right for me. It may look like slower growth for my business, but it is okay. Nurturing my creative process, building real connections, and delivering impactful and meaningful work is far more important for me than hitting my first six figures.
