A natural beauty brand focused on using effective botanical ingredients to create functional plant-based skincare.
Branding + PACKAGING
BRAND STORY
Balm Botanique is an artisanal plant-based skincare with a focus on Asian botanicals. The brand was established in 2014 by Teresa Foo with a goal to provide comfort and relief to her then young son's Atopic Dermatitis skin issue. Her passion had led her to create simple yet effective skincare using plant-based ingredients. As her business matured, she found her niche in product formulations which highlight Asian ingredients and are suitable for tropical climate.
Teresa believes in creating products that are multi-purpose and essential to maintain a healthy skin barrier. The less clutter in our skincare routine means there will be more time spent on other meaningful tasks. Teresa made all her products fresh in small batches to serve the growing clean & green beauty community in Singapore.
INSPIRATIONS
We wanted the Balm Botanique brand to convey the artisanal quality of the products, simplicity through minimal & effective skincare routine and approachable feel. A feel-good authentic brand, according to Teresa.
Asian Botanicals are the star ingredients for all Balm Botanique products, so I took a lot of inspiration from those ingredients for this project. I created custom botanical line illustrations based on the ingredients in crowd’s favorite Awakening Skin Tonic and create a color palette inspired by those natural ingredients.
the logo
Logotypes were kept modern and clean to convey simplicity and minimal skin-care routine that the brand is known for.
The curved crossbar on the letter “A” in BALM signifies the support & comfort that Teresa provides to her customers through her artisanal products. It is subtle and intentional - much like her personality and style of work that I adore.
I also created a secondary logo with her packaging in mind, as I wanted her packaging to look modern and gender neutral. I feel this configuration provides a sense of calm and trustworthiness for the brand, which highlights Teresa’s expertise in product formulation.

Sustainability efforts
The brand is a big advocate for sustainability. Balm Botanique only uses glass, PET, and BPA-free packaging and encourages its customers to recycle their packaging after use. No outer packaging is used for all products and all orders are shipped in reused packaging with a wood-free label to inform the customers of the brand’s commitment to reduce waste.
For the holiday season, Balm Botanique opted for wrapping cloth or better known as Furoshiki in Japan. The cloth is custom made in Japan and perfect for wrapping up gifts.
THE PACKAGING
We refreshed the brand’s labelling system, keeping it simple and tasteful with good type pairing. We wanted the overall vibes to be minimal yet relatable and comforting to her customers, who are looking for high quality, organic skincare products. We assigned different colors from the palette for each product range - this is done to future proof the brand for potential growth in the near future.
